Sound Final Project

The length of the film is 12 minutes and 30 seconds, and I picked 4 scenes from the original film for this project. On the film set, the environment is noisy and full of hubbub of voices. For my final project, I am thinking recreate the sound space of my film and make a clean sound track that could give audience enough information about the environment that surrounding my actors. Also, I am planing make a sound effect that could connect each scenes together and construct an emotion tone for my film.For instance, the story took place in two time line, I was hoping that I could make a sound effect that symbolized the flash back scene of the film and help audience get a better understanding of the story. Final Project Proof of Concept and Proposal

For my final project, I am interested in making few off scene dialogs, sound effect that create emotion tone of the scene, and few sound effects that connect each scene together. "(László)  Nemes (who is the the director of the film) wanted the sounds and noises of the labor camp to be constantly heard." " Then, he expanded the sound space by   adding human voices and sound effect layers that had no visual match. For example, near the start of the film, Saul is cleaning in the crematorium. Using production sound as the base, Zányi enhanced the scrubbing sounds, and then added voices to fill out the environment. He used panning and processing, including 5.1 surround reverb, to define the space on and off screen.  "

MIDI Assignment

Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/xizhe-zhang/midi-assigment It is my first time using external instruments and  synthesizers to make a sound track. I pretty much just playing around with the synthesizer effect and trying found the one like. I try to  imitating the background music of old  horror films. For me, the piano is hard to play, because I do not have any experience with  musical instrument. The synthesizer could be useful to the people who have  rudimentary knowledge of music.  In general, I prefer making sound track with MIC recording audio than  synthesizer audio.

Midterm FInal

https://soundcloud.com/xizhe-zhang/mid-term-final Description : In this sound track, the most interesting part is creating a  spacious and isolated space, and a  mysterious creature is getting out from the eggshell and exist in this space. Base on the sound effect and the sound source, the breathing and heart beating sound of the creature is shown in the first part and second part of the audio track. In the first part, this mysterious creature is just coming out of "womb", the hard beating and sound of break eggshell would give audience enough information of the environment and the creature. And the other sound source is representing the ritual practice of the birth. In the second part, this creature getting acclimatized to its new surroundings. Midter Darft

https://soundcloud.com/xizhe-zhang/mid I used the condenser microphone to record the sound of celery crunching, pingping ball, needle  scratching the metal surface and a wooden ruler beating the metal tank.  For the first sound environment,  I was trying give audience a sense that there is  a spacious space and something supernatural is happening in this space. For the effect, I mostly used the reverb and EQ in my audio track. First, the echo sound of the ping pang ball would reveal the space of the  environment to the audience . Secondly, the celery crunching is representing a new creature is coming out of the eggshell, then there is a sound of water dripping  on plastic bag serve as the heart beat. I used sound of needle scratching the metal surface as high frequency  sound in the audio track, and it act as  the regular observance or practice of ritual .
