My final project is a sound post production of a film that I made during the last winter break. The length of the film is 12 minutes and 30 seconds, and I picked 4 scenes from the original film for this project. On the film set, the environment is noisy and full of hubbub of voices. For my final project, I am thinking recreate the sound space of my film and make a clean sound track that could give audience enough information about the environment that surrounding my actors. Also, I am planing make a sound effect that could connect each scenes together and construct an emotion tone for my film. For instance, the story took place in two time line, I was hoping that I could make a sound effect that symbolized the flash back scene of the film and help audience get a better understanding of the story.

The weakest part of my project is the mixing. The recording from the set is around -32 to - 16 db. After I try gain the audio level at post production, the noise come out. I try use EQ effect in logic and cut the noise out of the audio track, but part of the noise are still there. The sound level of my original recording also cause further issues in my mixing process. I  added more environments recording into the audio track, and the environments sounds level are way too high compare with the dialogue. Also, the echo sound is also a huge issue. In the first scene, the echo sound work perfectly with the images and I tend to use it to establish mood of the scene. But in the last scene, the echo sound is not matching the image from the audience aspect. It supposed to be deathly hush at the pause of the actor’s action and cause more tension between the two character. But when the image from wide view cut to the medium shot, the sound change immediately, audience could hear that the position of the recording changed. I thought I could fix it with automation and reverb effects, but it did not work as I expected.  I try use reverb effect to cut part of the echo sound and added more echo sound in the medium shot, but it does not make further improvement.

Sound Designer: Tamás Zányi Son of Saul (4:39-7-30) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsmxMCuObSc&t=4396s Interview Designer Tamás Zányi, Son of Saul -  December 3, 2015 By Jennifer WaldenSound "According to Zányi, nearly 80% of the film’s sound was created during postproduction." "(László)  Nemes (who is the the director of the film) wanted the sounds and noises of the labor camp to be constantly heard." " Then, he expanded the sound space by   adding human voices and sound effect layers that had no visual match. For example, near the start of the film, Saul is cleaning in the crematorium. Using production sound as the base, Zányi enhanced the scrubbing sounds, and then added voices to fill out the environment. He used panning and processing, including 5.1 surround reverb, to define the space on and off screen.  "

CAR 241 Recording Manipulations #1

https://soundcloud.com/xizhe-zhang/sets/car-recording-manipulations-1 Track 1 There is only one audio source in the sound track 1 which is the sound of a wooden ruler. For the high frequency sound in my track, I reverse the audio and change the speed of it. Then I cut off a small part of the audio from the original and change the pitch in Time and Pitch Machine. Track 2 There are two different audio sources in the sound track 2. One is come from a film camera, and another is come from a 35mm film. I cut these two and mix it together. I used automation for the sound from the film camera, but it did not make much difference. Tack 3 This sound track is a high frequency one. There are also two different audio sources in the sound track. One is the wooden ruler and another is the film camera. For this track, I was trying create a high frequency sound track by change the speed and pitch.
